TOUR DE FRANCE 2011

The world’s toughest bicycle race Tour de France is underway in France and again this year awaits the riders 21 stages and a total of 3430.5 km with the finish on Champs-Élysées in Paris on 24th July. The big favorite is the Spaniard Alberto Contador running on Bjarne Riis’ Danish Team Saxo Bank – SunGard and the only real threat is Andy Schleck, who is running for the Team Leopark-Trek. Tour de France has recent years been hit by several doping scandals and management has done much to prevent it should not happen again, but there will undoubtedly be new cases this year. Favorite Alberto Contador has been involved in two major cases that are still hanging on him and the French audience still remembers. The race starts in Passage du Gois and ends 3 weeks later with a stage to Paris. Usually the race is released when the riders reach Paris. The favorite to win the final stage on Champs-Élysées is Mark Cavendish and the biggest hurdle for him is to get over the tough mountain stages in the Pyrenees and Alps.
